Product Configurator
View accurate stock availability for configured products
Where to find it: Storefront → Product Configurator, Product Pages, Category Pages, or Cart
When you'd use this: When you need to check if all components of a configured product are in stock before completing an order. This applies to products built using the configurator, where multiple individual items combine into a single product.
What you need first:
- Products set up with the Product Configurator feature
- Stock data synced from your ERP system
Using it day-to-day:
When you or your customers view a configured product on category pages, product pages, or in the cart, CommerceBuild checks stock availability for each component item that makes up the configured product, not the parent configuration itself. This ensures you see accurate stock status for the actual items that will be shipped.
The system displays the same stock status across all pages:
- In Stock — all component items are available in at least one warehouse
- Out of stock — all component items are unavailable or have insufficient quantity across all warehouses
If a configured product includes variant products as components, the system checks stock at the individual variation level (for example, specific sizes or colors) rather than the variant parent level.
When any component item has stock in any warehouse, the configured product shows as in stock. This means if you have multiple component items and one is out of stock but another is available, the configured product will still show as in stock overall.
Troubleshooting:
- A configured product shows as out of stock even though components appear to have stock — Check the stock levels for each individual component item in your ERP system. The configurator checks availability at the component level, so if all parts are unavailable across all warehouses, the entire configured product will show as out of stock.
- Stock status differs between category pages and product pages — Stock status should now display consistently across all pages. If you still see differences, verify that your product index has been updated and that stock data has synced recently from your ERP system.
