Fortis
Accept Fortis credit card payments at checkout
Where to find it: Admin → Payments → Setup
When you'd use this: When you want to process credit card payments through Fortis at checkout, including orders with percentage-based surcharges or complex pricing.
What you need first:
- Fortis merchant account credentials
- Payments enabled on your store
- Location ID from your Fortis account
Set it up:
- Navigate to Admin → Payments → Setup
- Add Fortis as a payment processor
- Enter your Fortis credentials and location ID
- Configure whether to authorize only or capture immediately
- Set test mode (sandbox) or production environment
- Save your configuration
Using it day-to-day:
When customers check out:
- They select Fortis credit card as their payment method
- The payment amount is calculated automatically, including any surcharges or fees
- The transaction processes for the exact grand total shown in the cart
- You can view transaction details in Admin → Payments
How it works:
Fortis processes payment amounts in cents. CommerceBuild converts your order total to cents with proper rounding, ensuring the charged amount matches your grand total exactly—even when percentage-based surcharges (like 3% payment fees) result in fractional cent amounts.
Troubleshooting:
- Payment amount doesn't match order total — Clear your browser cache and retry the transaction. The payment processor receives amounts rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding rules (amounts ending in .5 or higher round up).
